“I’ve always known I wanted a guide dog,” says Oregon resident Sharon. “I have a unique background: I participated in puppy raising since I was nine years old, and I worked at a guide dog school for several summers.”

Brooklynn + Sadie

Connecticut resident Brooklynn trained with her first guide dog, Sadie, as one of Guiding Eyes’ many home-trainings occurring during the Covid-19 pandemic . Now the team is experiencing Brooklynn’s senior year of high school together. “Sadie is amazing,” says Brooklynn. “She loves working and will come running when she hears the jingle of her collar, ready to put on her harness and go.”

Shawn + Nick

Shawn's first Guiding Eyes guide dog was Kiara, a female German Shepherd. But this busy single mom of two teen-aged children, who is still training with the U.S. National Paracycling Team, recognized her need for a guide dog that could match her high-energy lifestyle. In March 2020, Shawn completed the Guiding Eyes Home Training Program with Nick, her new German Shepherd running guide dog.

Cheryl + Raven

Cheryl’s hold on the sighted world was slipping in the early 1990s when she attended a Guiding Eyes for the Blind fundraiser and met staff and graduates.  It was then and there she decided to apply for a guide dog.  And so began a relationship that would change her life.

Matt + Tanner

Visually impaired since birth, Matt leads a very full life in New York City. He has a demanding teaching career, serves as the union representative for nearly 300 members and maintains an active social life.  He attributes his achievements to “the supportive family and friends in my life and the best decision I ever made: applying for my first Guiding Eyes for the Blind guide dog, Claire, 30 years ago as a high school senior.”
